Man Food: Biscuits and Gravy Recipe
Biscuits and gravy are a really easy thing to make in the morning with little more than a spoon and a pan. There are a variety of biscuits in a can that are quick and easy and don’t taste half bad. They probably aren’t as healthy as the homemade ones, but if you cared about healthy, you probably wouldn’t be eating biscuits and gravy for breakfast now would you?
This recipe is good the day you make it, but the biscuits are even better the next day. Slice them and put them in the toaster and they are seriously good eats. The gravy will be really thick the next day so just thin it out again with some milk when you reheat it.
Ingredients
- 1 lbs log breakfast sausage (Jimmy Dean original works great)
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 pint milk (plus extra to thin out gravy if necessary)
- 1 can buttermilk biscuits
Procedure
Preheat oven according to directions on can of biscuits. Prep biscuits to be baked according to instructions on can.
Heat a large, heavy bottomed skillet over medium high heat. Smash the sausage into little chunks and saute until it is golden brown and delicious. Reduce the heat to a little bit less than medium and sprinkle the flour evenly over the sausage. Stir and cook gently until the flour is cooked (about 2-3 minutes). Add one pint of milk all at once and stir. Simmer until the gravy has come to a boil and thickened. Add a little bit more milk until the gravy has reached the desired consistency. Season with a freshly cracked black pepper to taste. It probably won’t need salt because the sausage is very salty.
To serve, just slice your biscuits and top with gravy.
